Summer Term News letter.

Dear Brownies/Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back to Brownies after the Easter holiday break. We hope you’ve all had fun and lots of chocolate!

Firstly I would like to introduce myself as your new Brown Owl- My name is Jo James. I’m a Mum to Danny, my son who is 10 years old, and to Lauren, My daughter who is 21. I am a Primary School teacher and have worked with Primary aged children for 14 years. Previously I was a Nurse for People with Learning Difficulties for 10 years and have lived in the Vale of Glamorgan for 27 years.

I’m very familiar with Guiding, having been a Brownie, Girl Guide, Ranger, Young Leader, Barney Owl and Guide Captain many years ago. I’m really looking forward to renewing my relationship with the Guiding Movement and being Brown Owl to 3rdCowbridge Brownies. I look forward to your support and patience. I am aware that I have very big shoes to fill as Sarah will be missed.

We also have another new volunteer and new Guiding Member joining us- Emma Newman. Emma has kindly offered to help us with all of our meetings and activities and will become our Snowy Owl. Emma is brand new to guiding and her daughter is a Brownie in our unit so some of you will already know her.

Jas, who is our Young Leader, will be staying with us to help weekly and Bethan, Tawny Owl, has also kindly said that she will stay and help out as much as she can. Our Assistant Division Commissioner, Meline, will be holding our hands over the next six weeks for the transition period.

What else is new?
We have a Twitter account- follow us on @Brownies3rd and on our 3rdCowbridge Brownies blog page at www.3rdcowbridgebrownies.blogspot.com which you can subscribe to via email and be notified every time it is updated. This will be our main form of communication with you so please visit regularly and subscribe. You can also email me via our unit email address: 3rdcowbridgebrownies@gmail.com

We will keep you updated weekly with all of our Brownie activities and aim to promote/share our experiences with the Guiding Movement. Social media consent forms will be handed out as soon as possible asking for permission for your child to be included on these sites. We will use the platforms in the same way that schools do to promote what we are doing and to communicate with families. The WhatsApp group will still be in use for immediate communication when needed.

Our joining list is now open!
Currently we are expecting a few new starters very soon but have an unusually empty waiting list because the unit was due to disband and cease, we would now like to fill it!

If you do know of any parents’ whose children are or nearing aged 7 and wish to become a Brownie then please share our social media details and our email address 3rdcowbridgebrownies@gmail.com so they can email me with their information. We will be promoting our unit to ensure that we keep 3rdCowbridge Brownies 30 year history moving forward.

Summer Term Activities.
Our Summer Term programme will run from Monday the 29thof April until Monday the 22ndof July 2019.
There will be no Brownies on Bank Holiday Monday 6thof May 2019 and Monday the 27thof May due to half term week. We will resume on Monday the 3rdof June 2019.

A new programme of experiences, skills and activities are coming into action by September 2019. We have decided that we will start the Summer term with these new and exciting experiences.

Our theme for this Summer Term is the Skills Builder ‘Be Well’ Feel Good & First Aid.

The children have to complete all the skills builder activities during our meetings throughout the term to achieve the badges,  Hopefully everyone will attend every week and complete working towards gaining our new ‘Be Well’ Skills Builder badges stage 2 in Feel Good and First Aid.

In addition we also have to complete 4 hours of Unit Making Activities together and each child will have to complete an interest badge in their own time in order to achieve the ‘Be Well’ themed award. Interest badges can be done at home - have a look in your Brownie Badge books to see which interest badges you’d like to do! Ask for help if you need it.

Brownies have the opportunity of earning 4 badges this term through fun and interesting activities and an award ceremony at the end of the term would be great fun too!

All the traditional games, songs and structure will still feature heavily in our meetings because we like them! Once the Brownies have finalised what they would like to do during this term I will post all the information on our blog page.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need to discuss anything via WhatsApp/email/or by phone.

I look forward to meeting you all over the next few weeks,

Kind regards,

Jo James.

Brown Owl.
